In 1938, Williams Gymnasium was constructed on the New Mexico College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts campus. It was named after Board of Regents president Dan W. Williams who was instrumental in securing funding and overseeing construction of the new gym. Williams Gymnasium was used for athletics and other events until 1972 when it was remodeled for use by the Art Department.
